Sharon was born on August 10, 1951, in Dover, Delaware, to Paul Kenneth and Betty Ann Christman. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Paul Christman.
Sharon is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Pete Charlton; her beloved daughter, Natalie (husband David) Erstine; and her cherished granddaughter, Evie, all of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is also survived by her sister and dearest friend, Debbie Chastain; nephews Nick, Brad, and John; nieces Heather and Rachel; as well as several great-nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
In 1983, she and Pete were blessed with their daughter, Natalie, who remained one of her greatest joys in life. That joy only grew in 2021 with the arrival of her granddaughter, Evie, whose laughter and light brought Sharon immeasurable happiness.
A proud graduate of Northside High School, Class of 1969, Sharon went on to earn her associate degree from Westark. Sharon dedicated 35 years of her career to ArcBest, where her professionalism, warmth, and loyalty left a lasting impact. She often spoke of the lifelong friendships she built there and the pride she took in being part of the company’s success.
A woman of deep faith, Sharon was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith, where she took great pride in being a descendant of one of the Church’s founding families. She joyfully served in many capacities throughout the years, always ready to lend her time and talents in service to others.
Outside of work and church, Sharon was known for her zest for life and competitive spirit. She loved playing golf, gardening, camping, and tennis—where her strong serve was legendary among friends. She also loved cheering for her favorite teams, particularly the Arkansas Razorbacks and UAFS Women’s Basketball, where she and Pete rarely missed a home game.
At home, Sharon found companionship and comfort in her faithful dog, Penny, whose loyalty and affection mirrored Sharon’s own gentle heart.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith. A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held Wednesday, October 22, at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1115 N. D Street, officiated by Pastor John Merrill.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to First Lutheran Church of Fort Smith, Arkansas, in honor of Sharon’s life and faith.
Sharon’s strength, grace, and kindness touched everyone who knew her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, free from suffering, and reunited with loved ones who went before her. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
