Steve was born on March 27, 1963, in Fort Smith, AR. He graduated from Southside High School and Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. After receiving his undergraduate degree he moved to Atlanta, GA, to join the Macy’s executive development program. A couple of years later he moved to Little Rock, AR, received his MBA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and began a successful career in financial securities, working at Stephens Inc, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley.
While in Little Rock he re-connected with childhood friend Holly Hatfield. They married and had a daughter, Peyton Lane Porter. Peyton was the pride and joy of his life.
Steve cared deeply for his family and friends. Growing up he was known as a smart, witty, and generous leader. He brimmed with an effervescent personality and an infectious smile that always made everyone feel warm. He had many friends and no matter how many friends he had, he made them all feel like they were his best friend while he was spending time with them. He was loved.
Steve lived in the moment and lived life to the fullest. He lead a life of diverse experiences like no other. He loved being in the water, scuba diving and skiing. He had a passion for listening to music, watching classic films and playing fantasy football.
Steve will be remembered for his heart of gold. His spirit lives on with the memories he made with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anita Jean Porter. He is survived by his daughter Peyton Porter, ex-wife Holly Elser, father Joseph Porter, brother Paul Porter, sister Julia Plowman and her husband Nathan Plowman, nieces Hannah Porter and Ellis Plowman and nephews Max Porter and Madoc Plowman.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 11am at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
