Virginia S. Shaffer, 94, of Mena, AR died July 1, 2012 in Mena. She was born May 17, 1918 in Broken Arrow, OK to Samuel Steven and Ava Johnson Sanders. She was retired from the Civil Service as secretary to the commanding officer at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO.
She is survived by a sister, Shirley Chambers of Arizona; two brothers, Leroy Sanders of Owasso, OK and Joe Sanders of Claremore, OK; three grandchildren, Don Owens, Deanna Olmstead Prowant and Jackie Snyder; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Shaffer.
A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home, Fort Smith, AR.
