

Virginia Carroll Smith, of Fort Smith, died September 16, 2013 in Fort Smith. She was born Oct. 5, 1925, to H.H. "Snip" and Thelma Carroll near Lavaca, Ark. In junior high school in Lavaca, she met the love of her life, Ronald Smith. They were married June 3, 1948, and were married until Ronald's death May 17, 2005.
Ronald and Virginia lived for many years in Fort Worth, Texas, where Virginia trained award-winning German Shepherds and had less success training her sons Rick and Mike. They also lived in Tulsa, Okla., for many years where Virginia worked for the Tulsa School System. They also lived in St. Louis, Mo., Shreveport, La., and moved back near home to Fort Smith, Ark., in 1976. She worked for many years for Whirlpool Corp. starting in 1977.
Virginia is survived by sons Rick and Mike Smith, daughter-in-law Valerie, grandchildren Katie and Matt, sisters Hortense and Betty, as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-laws as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ronald.
Graveside services will be 2:00pm Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
