Walter P. Harms, 90, of Fort Smith, passed away February 7, 2011 in Fort Smith. He was born December 23, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York to John D. and Lena Schermon Harms. He was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran of 6 years and was in active duty during D-Day, receiving the American Defense Service Medal, the Euro-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was of the Presbyterian Faith.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nora Hazel Harms of Fort Smith; two sons, James Harms of Fort Smith and Walter W. Harms of New Hampshire; one brother, William Harms of Kansas City, KS; and he was the beloved grandfather of seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son John Lee Harms.
Memorial Service will be Friday, February 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial of cremains in the U.S. National Cemetery at a later date all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
