

Wanda Jo Boyd, 85, of Fort Smith, died September 25, 2014 in Fort Smith. She was born July 9, 1929 in Ovalo, Texas to John Thomas and Geneva Evelyn Stone Carter. She was retired after thirty years’ service with the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service. She was of the Assembly of God Faith for most of her life but after coming to Fort Smith she joined St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was always active as a Sunday School Teacher and Missions Group Leader with her churches, and enjoyed being a leader in both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She is survived by one daughter, Yolanda Bates Bell and husband Bobby Bell of Fort Smith; one son, Mike Bates of Bryant, AR; one sister, Johnnie and husband Glynn Hall of Springfield, MO; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; her caregiver Jo Anna Harrison; and her Boyd children, David and wife Fran Boyd of Runaway Bay, TX., Shirley Boyd Collins and husband Larry of Broken Arrow, OK., “Baldy” and wife Glo Boyd of Lakeland, FL., John and wife Tere Boyd of Hobbs, NM., seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Emmanuel D. Boyd. Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the St. Paul United Methodist Church with burial to follow at 2:00 PM in the Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, OK all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Nick and Zach Bates, Jonathan Bell, Alec Bell, Jason Bishop, Scott Hall, John Thomas Boyd and Hayward Hall.
