Waymon A. Betterton, 92, of Alma died June 20, 2018 in Fort Smith. He was born September 10, 1925 in Alma to H.N. (Newt) and Mellie Betterton. He was retired from the State of Arkansas Employment Security Division and a World War II Army veteran. He was also a member of the Fine Springs Masonic Lodge and the Mountain View United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith with Rev. Chris Rink officiating. There will be a Masonic service included in the service. There will be a family visitation at the funeral home at 12:00. Burial will be at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with military honors. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eula; and brothers, Calvin and Henry. He is survived by his wife, Joan, of the home; and stepdaughter, Joyce Essman of Fort Smith; a brother, Bob Betterton and wife Golda of Alma. Also survived by nephews, Scott Betterton and wife Lynn of Galena, Alaska and Sam Betterton and wife Peggy of Alma. Also survived by six great nieces and nephews.
