

Wayne H. Farrar, 68, passed into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in Fort Smith. He was born march 31, 1942, in Hackett, AR to Hugh and Hazel Farrar. Way was a devoted Christina, and a participating member of Evangel Temple, and the Upper Room Sunday School Class.
Wayne earned the Associate Degree at Westark Community college, the Bachelor’s Degree from The College of the Ozarks, and the master of Education plus additional graduate study from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
He retired from the Air National Guard with 28 years of Military Service, and retired from the Fort Smith Special School District. After teaching and coaching at Darby Junior High School, he went on to become the Department Chairman of the Counseling Department at Northside high School where he guided students for 29 years. Always a sports fan, he was a familiar figure at area ball games keeping the clocks and scoreboards for Northside High School and the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith. Wayne was both a participant and Board member of Senior Olympics, consistently earning medals for his championship race walking. With his enduring interest in the welfare of young people, he worked tirelessly with the Fort Smith Boys’ Clubs and the Kiwanis Camp. He was an avid motorcyclist, and frequently listened to his favorite quartets at gospel music concerts.
He is survived by the love of his life, His wife Carol D. Farrar of the home; sons, Michael Farrar of Cabot, and Kevin Worden of Fort Smith; daughter, Stephanie Johnson of Fort Smith; brother Jim Farrar of Texas; sister, Bonita Merrill of Texas, and grandchildren, Trevor Farrar of Van Buren, Maddy Worden, Briannah Johnson, Alyssah Johnson and Shakor Johnson all of Fort Smith; nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Funeral service will be Monday, July 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Evangel Temple with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery with Full Military Honors all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Keith Merrill, David Cagle, Kevin Worden, Steve Holmes, Chuck Ellery, Ralph Brown, Trevor Farrar, and Mike Farrar.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Walter Rockwell, Dino Hutchings, Preston Williams, Rick Brooks, Dick James, Dale Crouch, and Roger Young.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 PM.
