William Speer "Bill" Williams

He was born March 27, 1919 in Denver, CO to John Montague and Phoebe Speer Williams. There were two brothers, Alfred and Clifford “Buster” Williams.

Bill attended Fort Smith Public Schools and was traffic manager of Mercury Motors Inc. in Fort Smith when inducted into the United States Army for service during World War II. He returned from the Army to serve as secretary-treasurer of Mercury Motors until the freight line sold in 1994; he retired at that time.

He has been a member of St. John’s and St. Bartholomew Episcopal Churches in Fort Smith and St. James Episcopal Church in Eureka Springs. As a young man, he served as treasure of St. John’s for 23 years.

William has four surviving nieces and nephews, Alfred Williams Jr. of Little Rock, Phoebe Kutait of Little Rock, Jim Williams of Holiday Island, and Marcia Crumpton of Homosassa, Florida.

A graveside service with burial of cremains will be 1:30 P.M. Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Forest Park cemetery with The Reverend Jeff Champlin officiating. There will be no visitation. Services and cremation are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
