"Jeanne Kay Spyres (known simply as Kay), age 83, passed away peacefully November 3rd, 2019, due to respiratory failure. She was born February 24th, 1935, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Herbert Spyres, in 1955 and who preceded her in death in 1997. They moved to Puerto Rico for a time before settling in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Kay loved unconditionally and tremendously, and gave to her family selflessly and without thought of reciprocation (sometimes to her own detriment). As a life-long Christian, she is best exemplified by the Bible verse Luke 6:35, “ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.” After raising two daughters, Kay and her husband owned a collection company in addition to, as certified firearm instructors, teaching self-defense courses in Fort Wayne. In the following years she was employed as a realtor for LaMar Realty Company, and then as an administrative assistant for A.G. Edwards, Inc. up until her retirement. In her 70s, she experienced double-knee and double-hip replacement surgery within 10 months of each other, and then battled and survived breast cancer, all the while acting as matriarch to her family. Kay was a private and strong-willed person, had an angelic singing voice, and loved Metallica, period movies, leaving post-it notes everywhere, and above all, making her family happy. Kay is survived by her children, daughter Deanne and husband Antonio, daughter Tresa, son Justin; sister Kathy; nephew Scott; cousins Warren, Cord, Dennis, and Judy; grandson Sean and wife Esther; grand-daughters Katrina and husband Marcus, Kitti, Sheila and husband Joshua, and Bobbie Joe; and great-grand-daughter, Evelyn. All of whom she loved deeply, just as she was loved deeply in return. A private family ceremony celebrating her life will be held at D.O, McComb and Sons Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Burial will take place at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, 5300 Lake Ave., where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband."
