Agatha "Ag" Ann Tourney, age 100, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023. She was born November 27, 1922 in Dexter, Michigan to the late Daniel and Mary Powers. Agatha matriculated from The University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. earning her Master of Science in Nursing. She proudly served our nation during World War II in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps earning the designation of Lieutenant. On June 21, 1957 in Port Huron, Michigan she married the late Edward Tourney. Agatha retired in 1986 as a tenured Professor of Nursing at Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne. In her free time, Agatha enjoyed sewing, ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, the occasional video game as well as crocheting afghans, hats, and scarves which she donated to local homeless shelters. She was a devoted member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and supported numerous missions around the world.
Agatha is survived by her children, Paul G. Tourney of Augusta, Michigan, Mary Ann (Chuck Hvala) Tourney of Gurnee, Illinois, Mark D. (Kathleen Dugan) Tourney of Noblesville, Indiana, Philip J. (Zulay Vann) Tourney of Carmel, Indiana and Rosemary T. (Daniel) Smith of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Michael Tourney, Edward Tourney, Hannah Tourney, Jack (Carissa) Evans, Daniel Tourney, Erin (Dustin) Messman, Scott Kelley and Robin Smith; and sister, Judith (Albert) Gruswitz. She was preceded in death by siblings, Daniel Powers, Thomas Powers, Edward Powers, Phillip Powers, Patrick Powers, Donna Donofrio, Monica Klingenburger, and Mary Watters; and grandson, Joseph Tourney.
Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Friends and family will also be received on Tuesday, September 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a Recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 pm at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Pine Valley, 1320 E. Dupont Road. Interment at Catholic Cemetery.
