Albert W. Chiaruttini passed away peacefully on September 13, 2023, at the age of 81, with his loving wife of 53 years and four sons by his side at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Al was a devoted husband, loving father, playful Grandpa, wise older brother, and caring friend. Al was born to Riego and Lena Chiaruttini in Oak Park, IL on February 28, 1942. After graduating from DePaul University, Al served as an officer in the United States Navy. Al spent six years in the Navy, including fighting two tours in the Vietnam War, and during his service he received multiple decorations and awards. Al’s honorable and brave service in the military was one of his life accomplishments that he valued most. While in the Navy, Al met his future wife Eileen, and they would go on to have a beautiful marriage of 53 years. They raised four children together – Mike, Jim, Bob, and Dave – and Al devoted much of his life to providing for and spending time with his family. Integrity, hard work, and humility were core values that Al modeled and instilled in his sons. After the military, Al went to work for Container Corporation of America (CCA) and enjoyed the entirety of his professional and accomplished career in various roles with CCA and its successors. Al was a lifelong practicing Catholic, always active in his churches from grade school as an altar boy to his later years as an usher. And his greatest hobby and something in which he found true joy was as a handyman. You could often find him at his workbench or in his garage, tackling projects from carpentry to home renovation to automotive. He was often sought by his sons and friends for his knowledge and, true to his character, he always found time for helping others. Remembering him with love forever are his wife, Eileen; four children, Mike (Jill), Jim, Bob (Jess), Dave (Bridget); seven grandchildren, Will, Kiely, Colsen, Owen, Cora, Teddy, Nate; brother, Lou and family; sister, Mary and family; and many other family and friends of a life well-lived. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804 with a time of gathering one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al’s memory to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
