Alberta Ruth Ilnicki

Alberta Ruth (Hubbard) Ilnicki, 79, passed away peacefully at her Fort Wayne home on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family who loved and cared for her dearly. Alberta was born on March 8, 1941 in Bath, New York to the late Albert and Ruth (Easterbrook) Hubbard. Alberta married her husband of 61 years, Fred Ilnicki, in 1959. She said she knew Fred was the one after watching him take his mother to the movie theater every weekend where Alberta worked. Fred and Alberta moved their family to Bluffton, Indiana in 1965, later moving to Fort Wayne in 2000. Alberta enjoyed working as a teacher’s aide at Ossian Elementary School and sewing several beautiful quilts, but often said her greatest achievement was raising and loving her four children. She is survived by her husband, Fred Ilnicki; children, Liz (Kenny) Wilson of Decatur, Ruthie Ilnicki of Fort Wayne, Fred (Marcia) Ilnicki of Indianapolis and Annie Ilnicki of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Ben (Rachel) Ilnicki and Becky (Evan) Scialdone ; great-grandson, Grayson Ilnicki whom she always called “grandma’s little angel.”; sisters, Luann Norton of Bath, NY and Clara (Frank) Ryan of Franklinville, NY; and cousin, Ron (June) Hubbard of Laguna Niguel, CA, whom she loved like a brother. Alberta was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Bob Norton. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren, 6404 S. Calhoun St., Fort Wayne, IN 46807 with visitation one hour prior. Social distancing and face masks are required. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church’s Lincolnshire Social Action Fund.
