

ALICE LaVON KOONTZ SCHOPPMAN, of Fort Wayne, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in her home. Born Oct. 27, 1921, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the Franklin and Metha (Baals) Koontz. She graduated in 1940 from Central High School and was employed at Art Iron, retiring in 1986. She was a life long member of Trinity English Lutheran Lutheran Church where she married Philip Allen Schoppman on July 25, 1942. She was a past national organizer of Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority; past president of Iota Chapter, Dsk and Women in Construction; founder and past president of Pettit-Rudisill Neighborhood Association; past president of Central High School PTA and Adams School PTA; member of Central High School Alumni Association; past precinct committeewoman and volunteer of Allen County Republican Party; and volunteer for St. Joseph Hospital, Embassy Theatre, Festival of Trees and Community Harvest Food Bank. "Our mother instilled her love of family, serving and giving back to our community in all her family. Her love for the Embassy Theatre began as her Women in Construction Chapter worked many hours during the restoration of the theatre, then as she continued to volunteer for many years as an usher, clerical support, Festival of Trees and volunteer scheduler." She was presented with many awards including one of the original 15 Who Care, Volunteer Connection - Outstanding Volunteer and Embassy Theatre Volunteer Hall of Fame. Surviving are her daughters, Bonnie of Hogback Lake (Angola) and Barbara and Susan of Fort Wayne; daughter-in-law, Kim Schoppman of Ossian; grandson, Curtis (Heather) Setser of Fort Wayne; granddaughter, Amanda (Jason) Bear of Keystone; and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Alexis and Alexander Bear, Luke and Jordyn Setser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Schoppman; son, Philip Schoppman Jr.; sister, Vera VanCamp; and brothers, Frank and William Koontz. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St., with calling one hour prior.
