

Allen W. Scott, 82, of Roanoke passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Allen was born on October 16, 1941 in Lafayette to Willard and Margaret (Teeter) Scott. He married Sharon Snowden and together they shared 40 years of marriage. Allen was a graduate of Purdue University with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone teaching students math and shop classes. While there, he also taught people how to successfully raise chickens which he really enjoyed. He worked for many years at General Electric followed by American Water Heater and Bissell. Throughout his career, Allen was very creative and was awarded over a dozen patents for his ideas. After retiring, he and his wife, Sharon, moved back to Fort Wayne and also bought a home in Florida and became snowbirds. Allen loved Florida and became active playing tennis, shooting pool, and playing Bridge. He had a competitive spirit. He enjoyed fishing and had a passion for sailing on his Sailboat. He loved trips, whether it was camping and hiking in Colorado, fishing or sailing in Canada, he enjoyed his time with his family and friends. He was a man who never acted or looked his age. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. After many years of prayer from family members, Allen accepted the Lord and was Baptized and is with Jesus today. He is survived by his wife Sharon; four children, Wayne (Alicia) Scott of Columbia City, Nicole (Barry) Teague of Fort Wayne, Natasha (Jerry) Zent of Fort Wayne, and Samantha Scott; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sandra Karlston of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Elizabeth Scott. Funeral services for Allen will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 12, 2024 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, Fort Wayne. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lindenwood Cemetery immediately following the service. Donations may be directed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
