Barbara Jean Burkart

Barbara Jean Burkart, 78, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born in Fort Wayne, Barbara was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna Wesche. She was a member of Pathway Community Church.

Barbara graduated from Bishop Luers High School in 1966. While balancing the responsibilities of marriage and being a mother, she built a steady and dedicated career in banking, where her selfless commitment and kind-hearted presence was felt by many. After 30 years of service, she retired as an Assistant Manager at First Source Bank, leaving behind a legacy of reliability, care, and quiet excellence.

Those who knew Barbara will remember the ways she made others feel valued and looked after. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and backbone of the Burkart family. She enjoyed long walks, a good glass of wine, and, most of all, time spent with family—especially her cherished grandchildren, who brought her particular joy.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ronald Burkart of Fort Wayne, IN; sons, Bradley Burkart of Stamford, CT; and Todd (Andrea) Burkart of Springboro, OH; and grandchildren, Caterina and Joseph Burkart.

A memorial visitation will be from 9:00am – 12:00pm on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN. A private committal will be held after the showing at Covington Memorial Garden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
