

Barbara Louise (Seidel) Weinert, 95, died peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Lutheran Life Villages. She was born on June 11, 1929 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, daughter, of the late John and Pauline (Timma) Seidel. She graduated second in her class from Central High School in 1947. Barbara continued her education in Dayton, Ohio, where she completed a certification in x-ray technology. While in Dayton, she met the love of her life, Herman "Earl" Weinert. Barbara and Earl married in 1950 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. After moving to Fort Wayne in 1955, Earl began working for Fort Wayne Community Schools as a math teacher while Barbara spent the next 12 years raising her two children. In 1967 she returned to school to pursue an associate’s degree in nursing at IPFW. Barbara graduated summa cum laude in 1969 and began an eighteen year career as an orthopedic registered nurse at Lutheran Hospital. During all of this, Barbara and Earl co-owned a prosperous campgrounds in Northern Wisconsin. Barbara was devoted to her family and enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren's extracurricular activities. She was an active and dedicated member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and then Faith Lutheran Church. Earl passed in 2019, after a long and happy 68 year marriage. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Weinert of Hayward, Wisconsin; and son, Mark (Salamatou) Weinert of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Hillary (Kent) Becker, Heidi (Jimmy) Powell, Erica (Courtney) Pearson, Haley (Russ) Sunby, and Sydney (Josh) Grider; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Seidel. A time of visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46819 followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm.
