

BERNARD "BARNEY" BAKER, 91, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Bethlehem Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born Sept. 11, 1924, in Lima, Ohio, he was a son of the late Charles and Leila Mae (Appleman) Baker. Barney proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1947 and was a member of the American Legion Post 82. He was a Home Improvement Contractor with Bernard Baker Home Improvement for 46 years from which he retired in 1995. Barney enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Jeanne (Dan Weisenauer) Cashdollar and Roland Baker, both of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie, Eugene, Wilbur, and Richard Baker; and sisters, Rhea Wilt and Thelma Elwood; and infant sister, Myra Baker. Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Inurnment at a later date at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Shepherd's House.
