

Bernard E. Walsh, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on August 12, 1923 in Fort Wayne to the late Edward and Margaret (Connors) Walsh. He worked as a conductor for the Norfolk Southern Railroad before retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and American Legion Post #296 after serving in the Army during World War II. He enjoyed working in the yard and with his flowers. Surviving family include his children, Sandy (Steve) Longenberger of Fort Wayne, Pam McCombs of Palm Bay, FL, Bernie Walsh of Fort Wayne; sisters, Mary Ellen (Wendell) Byerley of Angola, Joan Sturn, Geraldine Huffman both of Indianapolis; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife, Ruth J. Walsh in January 2006; and siblings, Irene Bailey and Edward Walsh. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to New Hope Hospice, Marion, IN.
