Bertha "Toots" Baker, 85, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026. Known affectionately as "Toots" to family and friends, and deeply loved as "Mammaw" by her large, adoring family, Bertha leaves behind a legacy of faith, joy, and devotion.
Born in Redbird, Kentucky, in 1941, Bertha was a woman of strong character, a fiery spirit, and a contagious laugh who loved a good joke. Her profound faith in God guided her steps throughout her life. In her younger years, she was highly respected as an elder in her church. She could often be found in the pulpit, beautifully strumming her guitar and singing Christian songs to praise the Lord. Bertha also had a passion for travel, holding a special place in her heart for trips to Kentucky and Tennessee.
She was united in holy matrimony to her childhood sweetheart, Hobert Baker, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years of marriage. Bertha was a fiercely loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Audry (Lee) Toussaint; her son, Roscoe (April) Baker; and her incredible legacy of 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lizzie Saylor; her beloved husband, Hobert Baker; her grandson Jason Underwood, her son, Michael Baker; and her daughter, Jackie Smith.
