

Age 75, of Minneapolis passed away October 14, 2014 at N.C. Little Hospice in Edina. Betsy was a brilliant, courageous, and compassionate soul, and an avid reader with a lively interest in politics, history, and the news of the day -- among many other things. She was a loving mother, fierce protector, and slayer of dragons. She was born in St. Paul on April 10, 1939, to Eve (Gorsky) and Ray Mackay. She graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1957, attended the University of Minnesota, and worked in retail sales, financial services, and at Hennepin County Medical Center before retiring in 2010. Survived by her children, Alan Mastbaum of St. Louis Park, Michael Mastbaum (Leslie) of Dunedin, Fla., Larry Mastbaum (Marni Blomquist) of Richfield, Marni Mastbaum-Hutner (David) of Fort Wayne, Ind.; grandchildren, Andrea Overlin, Evan Salah, and Ryan Hutner; and sister and best friend, Susan Mackay of Minneapolis. Preceded in death by her parents and newborn son Mitchell Mastbaum. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm at the Como Park Frog Pond, 1225 Estabrook Drive. Followed by a Celebration of Life at Loring Green Condominiums in the Fireside Lounge from 2:30pm to 6:00pm. Memorials preferred to Second Harvest Heartland or N.C. Little Hospice.
