Betty J. Burkhart, 75, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away, December 29, 2015 at Hancock County Hospital, Britt, Iowa. She was born February 23, 1940 in Elwood, IN to the late Robert Eugene and Ellen Eileen (Rittenhouse) Shaw. She was a homemaker and had also worked at EHI Corporation until 2005. She was an avid reader and a loyal Chicago Bears fan. Surviving are her children, Elizabeth (Wayne) Riedinger of Fort Wayne, James “Bill” Burhart of Mason City, Iowa, Jenny (Rodney) Graham of Fort Wayne, and Robert (Karen) Burkhart of Klemme, Iowa; grandchildren, Jessica, Natalie, Brittany, Courtney, James, Trinity, Jacob, Morgan, Storm, Colt, Bobby, Autumn, and Brayden; great grandchildren, Deundra, Frankie, and Aiden; and sisters, Kathrine Horn and Lucinda Simon. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Toby. Funeral service will be Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 2 PM at Advantage Funeral Home, 2403 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825 with visitation 2 hour prior. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery. Preferred memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
