Obituary of Betty Jane Osborne
Betty Jane Osborne, 102, passed in the comfort of her home, February 16, 2021. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. Betty was born July 11, 1918 in Perrysburg, OH, daughter of the late Joseph Harris and Ethel (Stucky) Rayle. She grew up in Deshler, OH and moved to Fort Wayne, IN in 1937 with her husband and infant daughter. Betty was a cherished, respected and valued member of Westfield Presbyterian Church and United Faith Prebyterian Church for over 80 years. She loved her monthly Fellowship gatherings at the church. Betty was a huge basketball fan. She played guard on her high school team, and became a lifelong Purdue and Pacer fan. Many nights were spent watching games with her grandson, Michael at her side. She loved traveling to visit her sisters and cooking for her family. The most memorable quality of Betty was her ability to make everyone in her life feel loved and important. Her door was always open for friends and family to come in and visit with a bowl of her famous Nuts and Bolts. While living the last year of her life with stage 4 cancer and amid a global pandemic, Betty kept her zest for life, her patriotic nature, deep faith, generous spirit, and her desire to keep loved ones near. She had 102 years of a life well lived, and will be remembered for her spunky, sometimes ornry, youthful personality and unique sense of humor, always bringing a smile and a laugh to all. She will be greatly missed. Betty is survived by her children, Jackie Groves, Judith (Gene Wright) Lehman-Wright, Tim (Nada) Osborne, and Tom (Sheila) Osborne; nine grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was the center and heart of her family, and loved by so many. We can all strive to carry on her legacy of love and kindness. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, H. Dale Osborne; brothers, Melvile Overly and Richard Harris; dear sisters, Eileen Suber and Josephine Adams; son in law, Jim Groves; and granddaughter, JaneAnne Groves. There will be private family service on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809.
