Betty Ann Shannon

Betty Ann Shannon, 80, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on July 7, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born February 10, 1946, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Betty was the daughter of Aubrey “Doug” and Betty June (Fields) Harris.

Betty graduated from Hoagland High School (now Heritage High School) in 1964 and later attended a couple of art classes at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. She retired from Allgeier Outdoor Advertising (formerly Fort Wayne Poster), where she worked in graphic design—bringing both skills and care to her work—and where she also first met her husband, John. Betty and John James Shannon were married on August 9, 1969, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Throughout her life, Betty’s compassion showed most clearly her devotion to those she loved. She was deeply dedicated to her family and children, and especially to her grandchildren, taking great joy in attending their sporting events and concerts. An exceptional artist, she had a particular love for impressionist art. She also found steady happiness in simple, thoughtful routines: feeding the birds in her backyard, enjoying word games, and working jigsaw puzzles featuring detailed nature scenes and/or animals. In quiet but meaningful ways, she also extended kindness beyond her home, donating to St. Jude’s Children’s and the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.

Betty is survived by her son, Jeffrey Alan Shannon, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; her daughter, Laura (Shawn) Dunafin, of Kendallville, Indiana; and three (3) grandchildren: Aidan Dreibelbis of Muncie, Indiana, and Kaitlyn and Molly Dunafin of Kendallville, Indiana.

Betty is also survived by three brothers: Ed Harris (Rita) of Roanoke, Virginia; David Harris (Diane) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Kenny Harris (the late Diane) of Monroeville, Indiana; and two sisters: Cathy Harris of Salem, Virginia; and Janet Harris-Nunn (the late Ken) of Salem, Virginia; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John James Shannon, who passed in 2023.

Visitation will be held at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46805, on July 16, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location on July 16, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
