Betty Lou Stewart

Betty L. Stewart 88, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024 with family by her side. Betty was born in Denver, IN daughter of Ora B. and Marie Quinn. She graduated from Wolf Lake High School and graduated from Indiana University in1957 with a degree in business.

She worked for Doerflein Insurance for 20 years, then became a Regional Insurance Marketing Representative for Met Life Insurance Company for 21 years, retiring in 2000. In 2001 she went to work part-time for Amstutz Insurance Agency and Ovation Insurance Agency.

Betty enjoyed IU Basketball, crocheting, traveling to Branson, MO and throughout the United States.

She was initiated into the Fort Wayne Elks #155 on March 28, 2011 and was the first female Exalted Ruler of the lodge in 2013. She was instrumental in coordinating with multiple charities and procuring grants for the Elks over the last decade. She was as well a member of the Red Hats Society and Women of the Elks.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wayne Stewart, her sister Linda and brothers Bobby and Lewis. She is survived by daughter, Joni (Dan) Macy; son, Douglas Stewart of Greenwood, IN. Grandchildren Joe (Sara) Walters, Andrew Walters, Leza (Adam) Hillis, Colby Stewart and Timothy Macy; great–granddaughters Zoey Walters, Blakelyn Hillis and Ashlyn Hillis. She was preceded in death by daughter, JoAnn; and her parents Ora and Marie Quinn.

Funeral Service will be 11am February 16th, 2024, at D. O. McCombs and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 4pm to 8pm on February 15, 2024 at the funeral home, with a Red Hat Service held at 7pm and Elks Service following. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Elks Cancer Research.
