Obituary of Bob Bier
Charles Robert “Bob” Bier, 83, passed away August 7, 2023, in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born August 18, 1939, in Beach Grove, IN, the son of Charles R. McCormick III and Klea M. Bier. Bob graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1957 where he participated in football, baseball and track and field. He was also active in the choral music program. After high school, he briefly attended Transylvania College in Lexington, KY. Bob was employed as a machinist at Precise Manufacturing for 28 years before retiring in 2002 as a Master Machinist. He achieved the status of 32nd-degree mason with membership in both the Ft. Wayne Scottish Rite as well as the Waynedale Blue Lodge where he served a year as lodge Master followed by another 23 years as secretary. Bob was scheduled to receive the Meritorious Service Award from the Scottish Rite in 2024. Throughout his life, Bob found joy in music through membership in the Mitzpah Shrine Chanters, the Ft. Wayne Summit City Barbershop Chorus, his church choir and, later, in serving as vocal soloist for the Trinity and Waynedale chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. An enthusiast of the outdoors, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and shared that love with his family and friends. In the final years of his life he joined the Ft. Wayne Mitzpah Shrine Classic Car Club and served as its secretary. Bob is survived by his children, John (Kimberly) Bier of Fort Worth, TX, David (Cathy) Bier of Lagrange, IL, and William (Nichole) Bier of Hudsonville, MI. He is also survived by an extended family of 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by many including his close companion, Jacqueline Gay. Bob is preceded in death by his sister, Beverly A. Bier as well as his wife of 43 years, Martha “Marty” Katzenberger Bier. Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 20, from 3-6 pm at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home 8325 Covington Road Fort Wayne, IN, followed by joint O.E.S. and Masonic funeral ceremonies. Private burial will take place in Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
