Bruce Robert DeVore, age 70, of Fort Wayne, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 21, at his home. He was born November 27, 1953 in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Robert and Jeanette DeVore. Bruce graduated from Mona Shores High School prior to being drafted by the United States Army. During his deployment, Bruce was stationed in Korea and Panama and was instrumental in establishing secure communications for former President Jimmy Carters visit. He enjoyed his time spent in Panama, especially 4-wheeling through the Panamanian jungles. Following his service, Bruce earned his Electronics Degree from Muskegon Community College and began his career with GTE. On August 29, 1981 he would marry the love of his life, Deb Beeman, in Holton, Michigan. Bruce retired from the telecommunications industry after 25 years with Verizon.
During his retirement, Bruce pursued many passions and interests but enjoyed caving perhaps the most. A former member of NSS, he also enjoyed fly fishing, riding his Harley and was a member of the Fort Wayne and Muskegon HOG Chapters, camping and travel, particularly spending time in Southern Indiana. His latest interest was HAM radio, callsign K8BGU, and enjoyed watching the Food Network and various cooking shows; even building a smoker and smoking various meats and fish.
Bruce is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Deb; son, Michael (Natalie) DeVore; siblings, Geri Denslow, James (Clemz) Weber, Robert DeVore, and Scott (Kellie) Fisher; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Leland DeVore.
Celebration of Life is 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 2 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior.
