

C. HERBERT SPENCER, M.D., 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Kingston of Dupont. Born Dec. 5, 1923, in Ben Avon, Pa., he was the son of the late C. Herbert and Margaret E. (Reichenecker) Specner, Sr. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was an Anesthesiologist on staff at Parkview Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Association, American Medical Association and the Civil War Round Table. He was past President of Indiana Society of Anesthiologists and past board member of the Southeast Family Y.M.C.A., he was also active in Boy Scouts. Surviving are sons, Charles K. (Edie) Spencer of Mundelein, Ill., Robert E. (Janice) Spencer of West Richland, Wash., Thomas H. (Kyle) Spencer of Auburn and John C. (Therese) Spencer of Fort Wayne; daughters, Mary S. (Charles) Humberd of Red Lion, Pa. and Elizabeth S. (Kevin) Gemmill of Spencerville, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Charleen; and brother, George E. Spencer. Memorial service is 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2011 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St. with visitation one hour prior.
