Carol Mae Schoenherr Wick, 96, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on July 2, 2026. Born on June 30, 1930, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of George and Lucille (Schroeder) Schoenherr.
Carol attended Concordia Lutheran High School, where she made many life-long friends. She graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. During college, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
On June 21, 1952, Carol married her high school sweetheart, Alfred Albert ("Al") Wick. Together they shared a supportive partnership and loving marriage of over 71 years.
They began their married life in New Orleans while Al attended Tulane University School of Medicine. During those years, Carol taught second grade in the New Orleans Public School System. Being an accomplished piano player, she was the one playing “Dixie” for daily morning assemblies—-even though she was a “Yankee.” Their daughter, Karen, was born in New Orleans.
Their next move was to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for four years while Al did his medical residency. During this time their sons, John and Bruce, were born. The family eventually returned to their hometown of Fort Wayne, where Al established his ophthalmology practice, and their daughter Kristin was born.
In addition to her Fort Wayne home, her place that held five generations of memories for her was Pleasant Lake. Here she spent summer days as a daughter, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother.
When Carol committed to a group, she took part regularly, often volunteering for a leadership role, and made friendships that continued on past the life of the group. Her bridge ladies’ friendships lasted 60 + years; golf groups; tennis groups; medical auxiliary groups, and Bible study groups kept her busy. She was also a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where she was active in the church choir and a volunteer in the church and school. Her commitment carried on to her local grandkids in Holy Cross sports and activities and then to Concordia High School cheering on the local grandkids.
Carol was the proud grandmother of a dozen grandkids: Brandon (Brandt) Halm, Erik (Tracy) Halm, Austin (Lindsey) Halm, Emily Wick, Laura Wick (Parker) Camp, Anna (Joel) Firebaugh, Andrew (Hannah) Wick, Tommy (Amanda) Morrison, David (Chelsey) Morrison, Peter (Audrey) Morrison, Caroline Morrison (fiancé Alex), and Rebekah Morrison.
She was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren, each of whom she added to her list to send cards to celebrate birthdays and delighted in buying gifts. Her great-grandchildren included: Aaron and Pierce Halm; Lucas, Leah, and Lennon Halm; Sophia, Harlow, and Brynn Halm; Roman Camp; Navy Firebaugh; Adeline, Blair and Eli Morrison; and James and Prescott Morrison.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her son Bruce (1963), her husband Al (2024), and her brother Thomas Schoenherr (2023).
She is survived by her children, Karen (Scott) Halm, John (Missy) Wick, and Kristin (Albert) Morrison, her twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Pine Valley, 1320 E. Dupont Road (46825) with Pastor Chad VanMeter officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
