

Catherine Sue Kruse was born on March 12, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan to the late William F. and Ruth (nee'. Goodrich) McVaugh. Sue as she was known by many passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the age of 88 through the Eternal Portal that separates this realm to the Eternal Kingdom to which we all must descend. A devoted, compassionate, and gentle soul, she was known for her honesty, kindness, patience, and spirituality. Her humor and thoughtfulness touched the lives of many.
Catherine spent much of her childhood in Pendleton, Indiana, where her father designed and built a home on 10 o'clock Ridge. She pursued her passion for art by majoring in the subject and becoming an accomplished artist, spinner, and weaver. Catherine earned her degree from Indiana University and furthered her education with graduate work in Art Education at the University of St. Francis.
In her professional life, Catherine dedicated many years to teaching at Weisser Park School, retiring from Fort Wayne Community Schools in 1999. Her commitment to education and her students was unwavering.
Catherine met and married Donald in 1961 while living in Bloomington, Indiana. They shared 63 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband, Donald; a son, Kristopher Kruse; a daughter, Katharine Kruse; a sister, April Squadrito; a brother, William F. McVaugh; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her professional achievements, Catherine was a master gardener and an active member of the Master Weavers and Spinners Guild. Her love for nature and community was evident through her involvement with the Community Gardens and the Fort Wayne Botanical-Conservatory.
Catherine's kind-hearted nature and dedication to her family, friends, and community will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
