Charles Thomas (Tom) McCoy, 79, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 30, 2026. Born August 13, 1947, in Bluffton, Indiana, Tom will be remembered with enduring respect and gratitude by all who knew him, for a life marked by steady devotion to faith, family, and community, and for a compassion that was evident in both quiet service and everyday kindness.
Tom was a lifelong member of Simpson United Methodist Church (UMC), where he faithfully taught Sunday School for more than 40 years. Over the years, he also shared his voice in multiple choirs and served in multiple board positions, offering his time and care with constancy and purpose. His commitment reflected a deep sense of responsibility to others and a generous spirit that sought to build up those around him.
He was equally dedicated to the Fort Wayne Elks Lodge #155, where he was an active member for 55 years. Tom served multiple terms as Exalted Ruler, beginning with his first term in 1992. He was elected Elk of the Year in 2000 and received a life membership in 2012—honors that spoke to the esteem in which he was held and the many years he gave in service and fellowship.
An avid fisherman, Tom especially loved spending time with family at Chapman lake. He also enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family, moments made richer by his quick wit and the good-natured humor he brought to every gathering. A natural jokester, he rarely missed an opportunity to brighten a room, and his warmth and compassion were often felt through laughter shared and time well spent together.
Tom worked at Collins Oldsmobile for over 25 years and finished out his career at Palmer Trucks of Fort Wayne. Through the years, he was known for reliability and dedication—qualities that shaped not only his work, but the way he showed up for the people in his life.
Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Conie; his sister, Ann (McCoy) Harris of Willowbrook, Illinois; and his children, Amy Becker of Fort Wayne and Chris (Rachel) McCoy of Leo, Indiana. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Caine Becker, Rhys Becker, and Quintin Becker; and Maddie (Tyler) Crisp, Claire (Tyler) Merkler, Connor McCoy, and Eliza McCoy.
