Dave shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Deb (Kreigh) Barton. Family was the center of his life, and he is survived by Deb; his son, Andy Barton (Elise); his daughter, Angie Piatt (Greg); seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; his sister, Nancy Wetli; and his brother, Brad Barton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Geraldine (Rufner) Barton; and his infant son, Doug Barton.
Dave worked for 44 years as a maintenance plumber at General Electric in Fort Wayne, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Outside of work, he was a devoted sports fan, especially of Indiana University basketball and football. He cherished time spent laughing with family, playing cards with friends, and quietly tending to the many birds that filled his yard.
David was a man of few words, but great depth. Quiet but strong, David was a thoughtful observer of life and often described as “the smartest person I know.” His wisdom, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting mark on those who knew him.
David will be remembered for his quiet strength, sharp mind, and deep love for his family, a legacy that will live on for generations.
