I remember as a young boy going to one family gathering or another hoping that Uncle David was going to be there because that meant it would be twice as much fun for everybody. As I got older I would begin to recognize and appreciate his tremendous musical talent, his patience with other people, and best of all, (to me), his fantastic sense of humor. I regret not being able to spend more time with him but I will always have my memories of him as a very special person and uncle.

Dear Jane,
Please know that Carol and I are deeply saddened by David's passing. I have wonderful memories of you both in my first years or teaching at Fairfield. I also was so happy he was part of Cotton Patch Gospel at the Civic. What a fun production.
May your memories of your life with him sustain you in the days to come. God bless you and your family. Sending my love and sympathy.

Your dad was such a wonderful man, full of character and humor. I have many fond memories of goofy moments and lots of laughter with him. I saw him a few years back at the farmer's market and we reminisced about our "gimme five" routine that we must've done a thousand times through the years. Hold tight to your memories and he will continue to live on in your hearts.

My deepest sympathies to the Dawkins family. Dave was always such a sweet man. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of music sessions held at the Dawkins house. Over the years I always made it a point to seek out Dave & Jane at festivals around town. Dave and Jane have always been so kindhearted and welcoming. I pray for Jane and family to seek comfort in your memories together. My heart is heavy for you all. I'm sure my dad and Dave are once again making music in heaven together ❤ Liz "Reeder" Roth

What I remember most about David Dawkins, was the 2 times I got to play my guitar with him. Once at Redeemer Lutheran church when we were young, and once at the downtown library about 10 years later. Both times were wonderful! Looking forward to that again one day!

I knew David from many years of working at ACPL. Definitely one of life's souls who brightened the world. He will be missed.

Thirty two years ago, as Rich was going home for the evening:
Dave Dawkins: See you in h*ll.
Me: What? Why would you say that!?
Dave Dawkins (with a twinkle in his eye): The music is better down there.

He did like a well-played fiddle and a wry joke.
