David Dean Trainer

David Dean Trainer, 79, was escorted by angels into the hands of God on May 13, 2016. He was born in Blue Mound, Illinois to the late Dean and Doris Trainer in 1936. Later, he moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where he was a life-long resident. At age 12, David started working at the family owned business, Trainer Shell Service Center. He worked there for 48 years with his brother, Stuart. David was a graduate and the class president at Elmhurst High School in 1954. David was a Christian and family man. He loved spending time with his family. He loved to read about history and explore historical sites. David was an avid photographer. David was a hero to all of his children and grandchildren and the backbone of his family. The greatest gifts he gave his family was love and time. He was a man of integrity; he was generous, kind, and fun. The title he was most proud of was "DAD" and "GRANDPA" and cared deeply for all his children and grandchildren. Surviving is David's beloved wife, Norma, of 59 years; 3 children, Cheryl (Marc) Santelli, Greg (Jackie) Trainer, Lisa (Pat) Tharp; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Leah, Julee, Brianna, Angela, Kristin, Justin, Alyssa, Patrick; 7 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Savannah, Kelsey, Khloe, Landon, Gianna, Layla, and also his brother, Stuart Trainer. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne with viewing starting at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his great grandson, Hunter Shaw at gofundme.com/2437k98h. Hunter was born with a birth defect which requires many surgeries.
