David F. Weimer

David F. Weimer passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, March 27, 2023 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly (Weikel); children Dennis (Paula) Weimer of Chandler, Texas, Mindy (Chad) Lambright of Fort Wayne, Indiana, James Weimer of Carmel, Indiana, John (Mindy) Weimer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren Karri (Andrew) Duhame, Jared (Abby Kizer) Bates, Cierra (Kaylee Cason) Weimer, Aloria (Aaron) Collins, Johnathon Bates, Noah Weimer and Sophia Weimer, Derek (Mary) Bolton, Raquel (JD) Dzwonczyk & children, Emilio (Heather) Bolton & children; as well as siblings Barbara (Richard †) Tuck, Rebecca (Tom) Purkey, Col. Michael (Nancy) Weimer, Ret., Patricia (Dr. William) Culp, brother and sister-in-law John (Kay) Weikel; in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews, some of which became dear pen-pals over the last few years with their beloved Great Uncle Dave.

Dave was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Robert and Helen Weimer on September 13, 1940. The eldest of five children, Dave attended Elmhurst High School where he met the love of his life. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this coming August 10, 2023. Dave went on to college, studying business before he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He came from a strong military family, covering many branches from the Air Force, Army, and Navy. Once enlisted he was stationed in Salina, Kansas, coming home to be married before being transferred to Bitburg, Germany for the coming three years. During this time he obtained a private pilot’s license. While serving his country, he and his wife Beverly were able to extensively travel throughout Europe, exploring and creating wonderful memories. They were able to return to Europe to relive some of those memories, remembering their youth, through a visit many years later.

Dave fiercely loved his family, and they felt it in return. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and faithful friend. He loved the outdoors and everything about it; from fishing on the Great Lakes with his father, hunting deer and bear, always exploring the roads less traveled, camping trips at state parks, as well as traveling across country, to simply enjoying a campfire down by the lake, and watching God’s universe pass by overhead.

Anyone that knew Dave knew that he was a hard worker. His knowledge was vast in the inner workings of all things. He was always willing to share his knowledge, one simply needed to ask and he was always willing to help. His incredibly strong work ethic was admired by many as he was influential in so many lives, not only his family and friends but through his business ventures. His working career started at a young age. Even before his teenage years he worked at a filling station, was a pin setter, golf caddy, and eventually worked beside his father in the tube making industry. This is where his passion for business was cultivated and grew into a successful career. He was an admired businessman and then in 1991, started his own company, Phenix Tube, and successfully retired from it nearly 20 years later.

Dave had many passions beyond his family and friends. He was a car enthusiast, a marksman in archery (ask us about the leaf story), private pilot, avid deer and bear hunter and practiced karate (Dave, being the only man we know that sparred at his local dojo with Chuck Norris in the mid 70’s and lived to tell the tale; story provided upon request from the family), earning a brown belt and being admired by his peers. Above all, Dave had a strong yet quiet faith in Jesus. While he unabashedly claimed that “God understands…” when receiving a tsk-tsk’s when he may or may not have been a bit brass, God did, in fact understand him, as He does with each one of us. Dave knew his Savior, talking to Him openly in his last days, asking to be able to come home. We rejoice in the fact that not only has his body been healed and fully restored, he was ushered to the foot of the throne and was told, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Rest well to our rock, and man of many titles…Bun, Dad, Poppa, Grandpa, Brother/Brudder, Uncle, and Dear Friend. May we all strive to fill the space that you have left behind and honor your legacy.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. A funeral service will occur Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 2:00 PM with calling one hour prior at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6318 West California Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46818.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #499, Parkview Home Health and Hospice, or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
