Dean attended Goshen High School where he was a track and basketball star before attending Ball State University where he earned both his Bachelors and Masters degrees. While at Ball State, he met the love of his life, Nancy Dumont. On August 22, 1959, they were married. After graduation, Dean worked in the Northwest Allen County School System. During his 38 year career, he taught and coached at Huntertown High School before becoming the first Athletic Director and Vice Principal of the new Carroll High School in 1969. He held both positions until his retirement in 1997. The sports complex at Carroll is named for Dean. Retirement allowed him to spend more time with his children and grandchildren who brought him much joy. As an avid sports fan, many family vacations centered around seeing his beloved New York Yankees play. He was a Chicago Bears season ticket holder and enjoyed years of attending games with Nancy, his children, and grandchildren. He also volunteered at the Embassy Theatre, worked at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum, organized breakfasts with his Sigma Phi Epsilon friends, and served on the board of his neighborhood association. He and Nancy also enjoyed traveling in the United States seeing sites and telling stories upon their return. Dean was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. Surviving are his children Amy (Kent) Steeves of Newark, DE, Beth (Steve) Chester of Fort Wayne, and Mark (Stacey) Gorsuch of Fort Wayne. Surviving also are his grandchildren Megan & Katie Steeves, Andrew & Lisa Chester, Will & Mandy Gorsuch, and Sister-in-law Katie (Tom) Hollopeter of Dayton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, both parents, brother, Richard Gorsuch, sister, Mary Louise Gorsuch Henelt and son-in-law Steve Chester.
