Delbert Paul Thiele

Delbert Thiele, 84, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Stillwater Hospice. Born May 21, 1938 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was the son of the late Arnold and Velma (Gerke) Thiele. After 40 years of working full time on the family farm Delbert retired in 1998, but continued his farming career with Provision Farms for several more years. He also worked at Avis Car Rental as their Transportation Director for over 25 years. Delbert was a Pleasant Township board member for over 32 years. He was also part owner of Maumee Valley Seeds. Delbert was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and cemetery board. He loved watching Nascar Racing and was a big fan of Purdue Boilermaker Basketball. Delbert enjoyed spending time at his home away from home on Pleasant Lake in Michigan. Delbert loved spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Thiele; daughter, Sheri (Paul) Parnin; son, Randy Thiele; five grandchildren, Kayla (Byron) Todd, Brianna and Jacob Parnin, Gwyn and Sawyer Thiele, three great grandchildren, June, Georgia, and Bauer Todd; brother, Ron (Cheryl) Thiele; sisters, Elaine and Carolyn Gallmeyer; and three nieces and five nephews. Delbert was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Kris Thiele; and brothers-in-law, Don and Hank Gallmeyer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 16933 Thiele Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46819, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Contributions in Delbert’s honor may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church General Fund or Cemetery Fund.
