Delphilade Brown was born December 3, 1948 in Marion, Perry County, Alabama and departed this life on March 20, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born to the late Leitha (Hannah) Johnson and William Brown.
"Del" as she was known, lived in Marion, Alabama up to her teenage years. After she relocated to Fort Wayne, she attended Central High School. “Del” returned to Marion and graduated from Lincoln High School in Marion, Alabama.
After returning to Fort Wayne, she gained employment with The Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, where she was employed for 35 years. Del was highly respected in every position she was assigned to at Lincoln National Life. She was always known to keep one or two extra jobs as well. She was financially sharp, responsible, and committed. Delphilade was a dedicated member and treasurer of the Warsaw Street Baptist Church.
After retirement and managing her rental properties, she went to work for Lowe's Home Improvement for 14 years prior to declining health. Del was very passionate about fishing, gardening, and cooking soul food meals for her family (the breakfast was for royalty). She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed knitting as well. Del had a beautiful singing voice and a huge heart. Her heart never left Alabama (the car was on automatic pilot).
She leaves to carry her legacy, a son, Virgil D. Brown (Alabama); daughter, Tracy D. Brown; two
grandchildren, Ciera D. Brown and James E. Starks III; five great grandchildren, Alayna and Alivia Rice, Kristian Richards, Mason Brown and Tru Doty; a special niece, Aletha M. Jackson and Family; a goddaughter, Selena A.O. Ridley; sisters, Geraldine Whitley, Washington D.C., Barbara J. Dowdell and Carolyn Hannah both of Alabama; two very dear friends, Joyce Tubbs and Roberta Ridley, in addition to a host of other relatives and friends.
Del’s’ sister, Margaret Jackson, also preceded her in death.
Her sweet giggles, kind smile, and firm corrections will truly be missed.
A visitation for Delphilade will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Warsaw Street Baptist Church, 2901 Warsaw Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46806 with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00 AM.
