Dennis A. Blume, 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. He was born on August 29, 1949 to George and Angeline (Filus) Blume in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he proudly lived his entire life.
Dennis, along with his brother, Thomas, was a first-generation college graduate earning both his bachelor’s degree and MBA at IPFW. He enjoyed an exceptionally successful career at Lincoln National Corporation in between his famously long walks around downtown Fort Wayne. At various times, Dennis was actively involved with local non-profit organizations such as the East Wayne Street Center and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, to name a couple.
He was an avid golfer who inspired his family to appreciate a variety of sports, especially ice hockey as he played in the juniors. Dennis took his future wife to a Komets game on their first date, followed by many games with family thereafter. He was extremely supportive of his three sons’ endeavors, later extending to his seven grandchildren whom he adored. No matter which moniker he assumed, Dennis, D-man, Poopaw, or Grandpa D was always prepared to lighten the mood with silly antics and his infectious laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jennie Blume; his sons, Nathaniel (Megan), Nicholas (Jamie), and Eric (Michaela); sister-in-law, Millicent; grandchildren, Brody, Logan, Lauren, Cameron, Layla, Ada, and Ethan; three nephews and five nieces. Dennis was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents and brother, as well as one nephew.
A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 2:00 pm until the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Turnstone Center for Children & Adults with Disabilities.
