He was born on July 16, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late David and Elsie Douglass. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Douglass was a member of the American Legion Post 47. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in construction technology. He worked as a vice president of Silkworth Construction. He founded Douglass Construction in 1971. He was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church and helped coach the Chicks of the Fort Wayne Jr. Girls Baseball League.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn L. Douglass; his children, Cindy Douglass, Barb Kelly and Mark (Vona) Douglass; step-children Sandy (Gary) Lash, Barb (Rick) Schmidt-Roy, and Sharon McLaughlin; a grandson; 12 step-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Welch; sister-in-law Bonnie Archbold; and a many step-great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis A. (Wimmer) Douglass; brothers David and Robert Douglass; son-in-law Ed Kelly; and step-son Darryl Schmidt.
Calling will be on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Klaehn, Fahl, and Melton Funeral Home 420 W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 W. Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 6600 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne.
