Donald W. Fischer

Donald W. Fischer, of Fort Wayne, passed away February 1, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice Home. He was born December 12, 1944, in Garrett, Indiana, but resided most of his life in Avilla. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, serving three years in Germany. From there he began a successful career in truck driving. He retired in 2001 from Alvan Trucking into a leisure life of golfing, doing yard work, and putting models together. He also enjoyed helping others, spending time with family, and being outside with his dogs. He leaves behind his wife Connie, children Bernard Fischer, Sonja Hollis, and Colette Bell. Grandchildren Donald William III (Arissa) Fischer, Lucas (Karinna) Fischer, Harrison (Tanner and great grandchildren Emery and Griffin) Fischer, Mark (Betty) Hollis, Devin (Taiylor and great grandchild Atticus) Hollis, Zachary Hollis. Brother Stephen Fischer, sister Roberta Weber, brother-in-law Kent Ihrie, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Victoria (Case) Fischer, son Donald W. Fischer Jr., and siblings Alice (Donald) Huth, Delores Lamb, Irene (Amos) DeLong, Tom (Nancy) Fischer, Chuck (Sherry) Fischer, Ruth Ihrie, Nancy Lamb, Barb (Richard) Hippenhammer, and Jeanette Fischer. A visitation for Donald will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46804.
