Don earned a Bachelor’s Degree at University of Michigan, and a Master’s Degree at Purdue University in Electrical Engineering. He dedicated many years working as an engineer for Raytheon, formerly Magnavox, before his retirement. On September 21, 1960, Don married the love of his life, Carol (Oakes) Kleinhans. The two would spend 50 cherished years together before Carol’s passing in 2011.
Whether he was dancing or playing the harmonica and trombone, Don found great joy in music. He also loved to play tennis. Above all else, Don cherished his family, loving every moment he got to spend with his sons and grandchildren. He was a quiet and kind gentleman. Family and friends will always treasure the memories made with Don.
Surviving are his sons, Allen (Christy) Kleinhans, Jeff Kleinhans, and Doug Kleinhans; grandchildren, Jake, Joel, Mallory, Brad, Allison, and Bailey; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Carson, Rio, Octavia, Declan, and Hailey; sister, Dorothy (Bill) Beacher; and niece, Chrissy. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; son, Tim Kleinhans; and his parents, Francis and Lillian Kleinhans.
Memorial contributions in Don’s honor may be made out to Humane Fort Wayne. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 12-2PM at Advantage Highland Park 2403 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46825.
