Doris was born on September 5, 1935 in Jersey City New Jersey to her parents William and Margaret Connolly. She was one of 5 children, William Jr., Gerard, Phyllis, and Patricia. Doris attended a private Boarding High School in upstate New York. She earned her RN degree at Ocean County College in New Jersey. She then earned her BSN degree as part of the very first Nursing graduating class from Stockton University in New Jersey. She then proceeded on to earn her MSN degree from Hunter College in New York. She achieved her higher education goals while raising her children.
Doris was a nurse in New Jersey, Florida, and Tennessee. She worked in many different fields, ER, Clinical, Hospice, and Psych. She enjoyed helping people and developed many rewarding relationships with her patients and coworkers. She worked as a nurse up until she was 78 years old. Upon retirement, she moved to Fort Wayne to be closer to family.
Doris liked to travel and meet new people. Her love of change and new challenges resulted in her moving around often. Once she made her mind up to do something there was no stopping her.
Doris is survived by her two sisters, Phyllis and Patricia and her brother William. She is also survived by her children Carolyn Anderson (Palm Bay Florida) and Christopher Adasczik (Fort Wayne). She was the beloved Grandmother to her 4 grandchildren, Kyle, Ashley, Ryan and Christopher.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Sommers, her son, Greg Adasczik, her brother, Gerard Connolly and her parents, William and Margaret Connolly.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 2 PM, with calling one hour prior at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Home in Fort Wayne, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne. Calling will also be held Monday, February 8, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
