

Dorothy M. Jernigan, 100, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Coventry Meadows LLC in Fort Wayne. She was born in Terre Haute, IN, to the late Leslie and Daisy Kearshner. Dorothy graduated from Union Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Navy Veteran and Nurse during WWII. Later she worked at Parkview Hospital for several years and retired as the Assistant Director at Visiting Nurse Hospice. Dorothy was a member of First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, Past President of Literary Group and the United Methodist Women’s Club. The family was blessed to celebrate her 100th birthday in March of 2018, with a host of friends, sharing stories and special memories. Surviving are her daughter, Joyce A. (Bill) Blosser of Fort Wayne, IN; son, Joseph A. Jernigan of Cedar Springs, MI; daughter-in-law Tina Jernigan of Bloomington, IN; brother, Dick (June) Kearschner of N. Fort Meyers, FL; grandchildren, Krista (Don) Shultz of Westfield, IN; Kara (Steve) Houman of Bluffton, SC; great-grandchildren, Claire and Connor Shultz, and Liam and Olivia Houman . Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Melvin Jernigan in 1983, son, James L Jernigan, brothers, William and Jack Kearschner, sisters, Rosie Clark, Ruby Surface, Mary Lou Wicker.
