

Dorothy was born on March 7, 1930, in Freedom Township, Henry County, Ohio to Henry Schlueter, Jr. and Emma (Dehnbostel) Schlueter. She married Nat Rettig on February 12, 1961. He preceded her in death.
Dorothy was known for her love of family, God, community, and the simple joys of life. She was the keeper of the Tupperware, a master of crosswords, and never let her grandkids leave the house without one more cookie.
As a longtime resident of Clear Lake, Indiana, she found peace in watching the lake's ever-changing scenery and loved spending time with her neighbors.
Together with her husband, Dorothy was a former co-owner of Rettig Music. She later worked in the Clerk Treasurer's office of Steuben County.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Ann Von Deylen; brother-in-law, Kevin (Vivian) Rettig; daughters, Connie (Larry, deceased) Lynn, Kathy (John) Burton, and Barbara (Thomas) Lichtenberger; sons, Timothy (Cindy) Rettig and Mark (Patricia) Rettig; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Esther (Harlan) Layton; brother-in-law, Robert (Beverly) Rettig; son, Terrence (Shari, surviving) Rettig; and an infant great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at Clear Lake Lutheran Church in Fremont, Indiana on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church or the PKD Foundation in Dorothy's memory.
