

Edgar Frederick Kettler, 88, a life-long resident of Fort Wayne, passed away June 3, 2011 in Naples, Florida. He was born February 10, 1923, the son of Alfred W. and Margery (Pickard) Kettler, Sr. He was graduated by South Side High School in 1941. He served in the 8th Air Force during World War II. He was graduated by Indiana University in 1948 with a BS in Business. At IU, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. On June 19, 1948, he married May Kay Burgman. He was president of Fort Wayne Storage Company, an agent of Allied Van Lines. His affiliations with Indiana University included: president of the IU Allen County Alumni Association; founding member of the IU Varsity Club; executive council member and president of the national IU Alumni Association; member of the Board of Trustees; co-chairman of the fundraising campaign for the class of 1948, which generated more money than any previous class campaign; cabinet member for the Campaign for Indiana; and member of IU football’s 12th Man Club. His community involvement included Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Allen County Memorial Coliseum; Treasurer of the Allen County Republican Central Committee; board member of the Fort Wayne Fine Arts Foundation; President of Fort Wayne Civic Theatre; member of Kiwanis Club of Downtown Fort Wayne; Superintendant of Sunday School and Elder at First Presbyterian Church; charter member of Mad Anthony’s; delegate to state and national Republican Conventions; member of State Student Assistant Commission of Indiana; member of Governor Robert D. Orr’s Personal Advisory Committee; citizen member of the Indiana Transportation Coordinating Board; president of Indiana Household Movers and Warehousemen; and president of National Furniture and Storage Association. He was honored with the following awards: IPFW’s Community Advisory Council’s Ralph E. Broyles Medal; Kentucky Colonel Commission; Sagamore of Wabash; South Side High School Distinguished Alumni; Indiana University Allen County Alumni Club’s Distinguished Alumni Award, and Indiana University Distinguished Alumni Award. He is survived by his brother, Alfred W. Kettler, Fort Wayne; daughters Linnea (Gary) Brunk, Roanoke, VA and Carol Kettler, Fort Wayne; son, Greg Kettler, Rapid City, MI; grandchildren A’ndrea Masters, Merrilee (John) Ayers, Paul (Emily) Brunk, Katie (Anthony) Morford, and Brad Kettler; great-grand-children Kendri and Rylin Ayers. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Katherine Burgman Kettler December 6, 2008. Memorial Service is 11:00 am Monday, June 13, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, 300 W.
