

He was a 3rd Class Electronic Tech in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948. Edmund earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Purdue University in (1952). He was a Staff Engineer with Indiana Michigan Electric for 39 years and retired in 1991.
Edmund was fond of his time in the Boy Scouts of America receiving his Eagle Scout Award along with participation in Sea Scouts on Lake Erie. During WWII he served as a runner with the Civil Defense often transporting messages during blackout periods on his bicycle. He was an avid ballroom dancer and frequented the Crystal Garden Dance Hall in Vermillion, Ohio, dancing to bands of Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. During the war he made it a point to dance with all the girls whose guys were away fighting.
In later years Ed gave of his time as an AARP Tax Aid volunteer as well as volunteer efforts at his church, Gethsemane Lutheran of Fort Wayne. He loved the strategy of card games and was proud of his successful win of his last Bridge game. He was also dedicated to his Purdue Boilermakers basketball team and reveled in the 2023 Big Ten Championship. He and his wife Julia loved to travel both domestically and to Western Europe. He had quite a good sense of geography and world affairs. As his life wound down and became difficult, he always looked for ways to learn. He was fascinated with the upcoming solar energy and electric vehicle concepts.
Edmund is survived by his children, Liz (John) Rudy of Downers Grove, IL; Linda L Butler, Dene (Nancy) Roby, Gerald L. (Sandra) Roby all of Fort Wayne, IN; John R (Judy) Roby of Sarasota, FL; JoAnn M (Mike) Pullen of Columbia City, IN. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ann Knight, his loving wife of 48 years, Julia E. Schulz in 2018, and his sister Sandra Zaebst.
Funeral Service will be 11 am Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church 1505 Bethany Lane, Fort Wayne, IN with visitation one hour prior at the church.
