Edward E. Schmitt

Edward E. Schmitt, 80, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on August 9, 2025. Born on November 5, 1944, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ed was the son of the late Roy J. Schmitt and Helen A. (Kraft) Schmitt. Ed was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He also served in the United States Army from 1965-1967. Ed worked for IPFW, and retired after 30 dedicated years. Ed enjoyed card nights with family, bowling, and NASCAR Racing. He also loved going on vacation and gambling with family. His true love was for IU Basketball and Notre Dame Football. He was also enjoying the Indiana Fever Girl’s Basketball with Caitlyn Clark. Ed was a member of Precious Blood Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He supported St. Jude Hospital with monthly contributions. Ed is survived by his brothers, John W. Schmitt and David (Kris) Schmitt, along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Roy F. Schmitt, Don Schmitt, and Ken Schmitt, and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Jean Schmitt and Marilyn Louise Schmitt. He will be greatly missed by all his family, friends, and those who took care of Ed in his last few months and years. A funeral service for Ed will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 2:00PM at Advantage Funeral Home – Mungovan 2114 South Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46802, with visitation one hour prior. He will be laid to rest at Catholic Cemetery 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46805. Memorial contributions may be made out to St. Jude Hospital in honor of Ed’s memory.
