Faisal Martin Meerzo 90 of Wolcottville, Indiana (Big Long Lake) and Palm Harbor, Florida passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Parkview Hospital – Randallia in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born a son of the late Albert M. Meerzo and Flora (Ballentine) Meerzo in Grand Haven, Michigan.
As his parents bought small inns and restaurants, in his early years he was half owner of these establishments. Later, after the death of his mother, he was full owner and established his own bar in Saginaw. After a fire took out his establishment, rather than rebuilding, he worked for banks troubleshooting troubled properties. In Michigan, he lived in Muskegon, N. Muskegon, Pontiac, Saginaw and Grand Rapids. He had a lifelong dream of living in Florida so he moved to Clearwater in the 80’s where he formed several businesses.
He was a self-taught engineer and car enthusiast. Faisal built 6 small race cars from the ground up and hobby raced in SCCA for many years eventually becoming a Chief Steward. Over the years, he owned over 80 cars and re-engineered them if he thought he could make them better. His last car was a Saturn Sky red roadster. He also loved sailing and cruised the Great Lakes and Florida in his earlier years. He still had a small sailboat and ironically had just put it in the lake the day before he became ill.
After his racing years, he used his welding skills to create metal art. Some contained gears, musical instruments, or just interesting items that he could turn into his vision. In his last years, his most popular art creations were chess sets. Very few items were sold. He preferred to give his creations away after suggestions from the recipients. He also donated an annual creation to a charity event that funded a free clinic in Clearwater, Florida. You may see many of his creations and more about his life on his website www.metalsbyfaisal.com.
Faisal was a very interesting man and loved to entertain. He was a great storyteller and loved to tell his audience the many experiences in his life. He was an amazing husband never failing to tell his wife, Julie, how much he loved her every day of their marriage-that always included a kiss. To all others, he was loving, generous, and a very loyal friend.
Over the years of his long life, he married several times and had three children. He lived life to its fullest and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Julie Freistroffer Meerzo. Also surviving are his children, Don (Sharon) Krcmarik , Carolyn (Mark) Wyborny and Kevin Revard , grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Kai and Kathleen, and a brother, Albert (Delores) Meerzo . He was pre-deceased by another grandchild, Carolyn, who died in infancy.
