Gary Lee Rumsey Jr., 62, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away October 26, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Butler, Indiana. He was born October 31, 1963, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Beloved by those who knew him, Gary will be remembered for his kind-hearted nature and the steady care he showed to family and friends.
Gary graduated from Snider High School in 1982. He went on to build a career in hotel management for several years, beginning in Chicago and working with various extended stay facilities, bringing dedication and a thoughtful presence to the work he did.
Gary is survived by his children, Allison Kathleen (Jennings) Nickolson of Butler, IN, and Quinton (Caitlin) Rumsey of Auburn, IN; his mother, Wilma Jean Rumsey; bonus father, Ron Ryan; sister, Jill (Van) Barroquillo; and grandchildren, Hunter, Kinsley, Payton, and Archer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Lee Rumsey Sr.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at the Independent Full Gospel Church, 1000 S. Gonser Avenue, Ashley, Indiana, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Private niche placement will take place at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his grandchildren's education fund in care of Allison K. Nickolson. Arrangements entrusted to D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825.
